The Colonial Shoe is a low quarter shoe for the late 18th Century. These reproduction shoes are based on recovered examples from a New York area military camp as well as our most recent research. Information may be found in Sketchbook '76, sunken ships, and originals from private collections.
Our shoes are formed on "Straight Last" meaning there will be no left or right when new. Be sure to wear the shoe on the same foot to form them to your feet properly. made from "Oak Tanned leather with a two piece back, squared toe, pegged heels, welted and sewn soles. These shoes will give many years of excellent use.
#FI110 (Early 18th Century) Colonial Buckle Shoe
$162.00Buckles purchased Separately
(We do not attach buckles due to fitting problems)
For those doing an impression of the first half of the 18th Century we offer the option of having the “counter” (the piece of leather put in the back of the heel of the shoe to stiffen the back) hand sewn with a “tunnel stitch” which is a row of stitching that only goes part of the way through the leather so stitching is not visible on the outside of the shoe. Please note this method of stitching virtually disappears early in the second quarter of the 18th Century.
Due to the extra work required please allow 4-6 weeks for manufacturing.

#6015 1812 Period Low Quarter Military Shoe $163.00
The buckle shoe had passed from the military scene by the time of the War of 1812. The Militia, however was still equipped with low quarter shoes. The information for this shoe was provided by an 1812 militia unit. This example has two lace holes pierced. As all of our shoes, these are hand made of high quality leather. The need for taller footwear was recognized and compensated by wearing of the half gaiters.
