The Colonial Shoe is a low quarter shoe for the late 18th Century.  These reproduction shoes are based on recovered examples from a New York area military camp as well as our most recent research.  Information may be found in Sketchbook '76, sunken ships, and originals from private collections.

Our shoes are formed on "Straight Last" meaning there will be no left or right when new.  Be sure to wear the shoe on the same foot to form them to your feet properly.  made from "Oak Tanned leather with a two piece back, squared toe, pegged heels, welted and sewn soles.  These shoes will give many years of excellent use.

Special Note: DO NOT PUT YOUR FEET CLOSE TO OR IN THE FIRE. You will bake the soles and cause them to dry up and crack open. At this point there is nothing to be done to repair them.

#6015 1812 Period Low Quarter Military Shoe    $285.00

The buckle shoe had passed from the military scene by the time of the War of 1812.  The Militia, however was still equipped with low quarter shoes.  The information for this shoe was provided by an 1812 militia unit.  This example has two lace holes pierced.  As all of our shoes, these are hand made of high quality leather.  The need for taller footwear was recognized and compensated by wearing of the half gaiters.

#JS6030 Jefferson shoe     $245.00

These are copied from a drawing of the shoes Thomas Jefferson wore at his inauguration in 1801.  These are a shoe that comes 2” above the ankle, as described in a book on riflemen printed in 1812.  This must have been a common type of work shoe since I have seen styles similar as early as the mid 1700’s.   These are listed as shoes sometimes and other as boots, but the truth is they are bootee which means taller than a shoe but shorter than a boot.    These would have been made with a welted and sewn sole since pegged sole did not come in till 1818. We do not make these shoes in smoothout. These are offered in the correct waxed leather or rough out finished to look smooth.

Straight Last Bootee (Brogans)

(This is not a stock shoe. Each pair will be made to order. Allow at least 30 days for delivery)
This shoe is useful for the Mexican War period and the Civil War period (Confederate Service as well as civilian impressions). This is the most common outdoor type of shoe of the first half of the 1800's. Our shoe is patterned from an original in our collection which is like the one found in front of Fort Jackson, Georgia.

These brogans are available in Black. There are no "lefts" and "rights" to these shoes. They are made on straight lasts. ( A "last" is a block or form over which a shoe upper is drawn and shaped.) Laces are provided. Since they are made of the finest natural leather they quickly form to whichever foot you regularly wear them. Soles are pegged as original.

Special Note: DO NOT PUT YOUR FEET CLOSE TO OR IN THE FIRE. You will bake the soles and cause them to dry up and crack open. At this point there is nothing to be done to repair them.
