Buttonholes are machine sewn unless you specify to leave them for hand sewing.

Due to the
great variety of officers' needs, it is best that one contact us for selection
and pricing on these items. We have sack coats, shell jackets, frock coats,
trousers, leather gear etc., available for officers. We have found that folks
are better served in this line if we work all details out together in advance.
Usually the cut and materials used in officers' garments are different than the
Enlisted man grade. For instance, wool broadcloth material for coats.

Officer items are usually made to order. We generally do not keep them in stock
so please plan ahead. Officer items are made according to individual
specification; therefore, you may not change any detail once the item is
underway. Due to the intricacy of this work you will need to allow at
least 30-45 days for delivery.
Please do not call just to check
on how things are coming along, it will usually cause a delay.
*You may not
return for refund or exchange any custom tailored item. We may be able to
alter but we will not accept as a return.

Federal Officer Sack Coat
This is a loose fitting coat longer than the enlisted man's
version and made of dark blue wool broadcloth. They usually have four,
five or six button fronts (Ours has a five button front unless otherwise
specified.) with large 7/8" Eagle buttons. There are two lower
outside pockets, one on each side and one inside left breast pocket.
Sleeves are non-functional. The coat is fully lined with polished cotton.

Federal Officer Shell Jacket
Some of the younger officers, usually lieutenants and captains, favored a shell
jacket for field use. The Officer Shell Jacket is a fairly fitted coat
that come to the waist. These are single breasted with a nine 7/8" Eagle
buttons or double breasted with 2 rows of nine 7/8" Eagle buttons on the front
and made of dark blue wool broadcloth and lined with polished cotton.
Sleeves are functional with three 5/8" button cuff. The officer shell has
2 inside pockets and can have an outside pocket
(slanted) on the left side, or a small one low on the right side used for
pistol cartridges, etc. (Ours is made with no outside pocket unless
requested.) They are usually very plain, but some have a single
row of gold around the cuff making a single small loop at the front. (See option below)

Federal Officer Frock Coat
The standard coat for officers. The usual variations include Single Breasted with nine 7/8" Eagle Buttons (Lt. & Captains get single breasted) or Double Breasted with 2 rows of nine 7/8" Eagle Buttons. The collar and cuff may be plain or be black velvet. The cuff is functional with three 5/8" Eagle Buttons. The tail of the coat may have four to six buttons (Specify). Our coat is made with a six button tail unless otherwise requested.) This coat is made of dark blue wool broadcloth and is fully lined with polished cotton and has inside pockets (2 breast pockets and 2 tail pockets, one on each side) . The officer pattern coat is completely different from the enlisted version. They are usually very plain, but some have a single row of gold around the cuff making a single small loop at the front. Federal Trousers (Officer)

#OF806 Officer Foot Pattern Trousers
Our officer trousers are made of Dark Blue wool broadcloth with cotton waistband lining and pockets. The fly is lined with lightweight cotton to make it more flexible for buttoning and is not topstitched. The waistband is approx. 1 1/2" wide in the front tapering to approx. 3/4" wide in the back with the correct vent and it has no topstitching. the vent closure is a belt back to allow for waist adjustment. There is a horizontal back yoke tapering into the waistband just behind the seam causing the back of the trousers to rise properly. Each pair has a watch pocket (the watch pocket will not have a band unless requested) and they have side seam pockets. (Mule Ear Pockets may be had, specify) If we hem them, the cuffs will have a 1" overlapping vent. Tin buttons are attached for closure and suspender attachment.

#OF808 Officer Mounted Pattern Trousers
Our Officer Mounted Pattern Trousers are made of Dark Blue Wool Broadcloth with cotton drill waistband lining and pockets. The fly is lined with lightweight cotton to make it more flexible for buttoning and is not topstitched. The waistband is approx 1 1/2" wide in the front tapering to approx. 3/4" wide in the back with the correct rear vent. The vent closure is a belt back to allow for waist adjustment. There is a horizontal back yoke tapering into the waistband just behind the side seam causing the back of the trousers to rise properly. Each pair has a top entry pocket. (These trousers are not provided with but may be had with Side Seam or Mule Ear Pockets upon request). The mounted trousers have a reinforced seat and leg. If we hem them, the cuffs will have a 1" overlapping vent. Mounted Trousers often had "foot straps" buttoned onto the end of the cuff to keep the trousers inside the boot. (See trouser options listed below). Tin buttons are attached for closure and suspender attachment.

We are now offering Patent brims for the forage cap and kepi. These were done on both enlisted and officer's kepi and forage caps. The original patent leather was 5 to 7 layers with sanding between coats that took time to build up to the correct finish. These are not painted with shellac but instead a true multi-step process like the original patent leather. These are not a stocked item and will be special order only. There is an extra charge of $60.00 for these brims.

#809OF Federal Officer Forage Cap Plain $82.95 Embroidered Officer Hat Insignia
The forage cap is made of dark blue broadcloth. It has a high crown with a tall body meant to fall forward. They have harness leather bills with the edges bound (officer) and chin straps with the correct brass slide. They have a pasteboard crown reinforcement and polished cotton linings with leather sweatbands. The forage cap has a welt around the top circle and across the top part of the bill the same color as the body of the hat.
These are bound with a cloth edge, if you want a leather edged brim please state that when ordering, there is a $10.00 extra charge.

The kepi is made of dark blue broadcloth. It has a low crown and short body and is lined with polished cotton. It has a leather bill with bound edges (Officer) and chin strap with the brass slide and leather sweatband.

This belt is also made in the folded leather but you will need to contact us for price.
This belt is patterned from an original. The original belt has the
later officer belt plate. It is all brass with the wreath cast on the plate.
(Buckle and Brass Swivel Snaps are provided with this belt. Provide Exact Waist Measurement when ordering. We allow for it to fit over clothing)
(If you want the early plate, which had an applied silver wreath you will need to specify at the time of your order.)
There is a $40.00 extra charge for the early plate.
Officers Sword swivel snaps
We just got in a new batch of really nice snaps that are gold plated like the originals and have steel springs unlike many out there with brass springs. These are true Civil War snaps and not the post war snaps that many are selling.
